Hello, food lovers!
Today, I'm sharing a recipe that will make you forget about ordering takeout: Homemade Orange Chicken! I followed a fantastic recipe from the YouTube channel "맀μΌλ§λ delicious day", and the result is incredible.
The chicken is super crispy (thanks to a special batter mix), and the sauce is the perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and savory. It uses fresh orange juice for that authentic zesty flavor.
π Ingredients
[Chicken & Marinade]
290g Chicken Breast (approx. 2 pieces)
1 Orange (for juicing)
1 tbsp Minced Garlic
1 tsp Salt (3g)
0.5 tsp Black Pepper
[Crispy Batter]
5 tbsp Rice Flour (50g)
2.5 tbsp All-Purpose Flour (25g)
2.5 tbsp Corn Starch (25g)
90ml Water
[Orange Sauce]
8 tbsp Fresh Orange Juice (50ml)
5 tbsp Brown Sugar (50g)
4 tbsp Vinegar
2 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Honey (or Corn Syrup)
1 tsp Fine Red Pepper Powder (Gochugaru)
0.5 tsp Ginger Powder (optional)
[Thickener]
Starch Water: Mix 1.5 tbsp Corn Starch + 2 tbsp Water
[Garnish]
Crushed Peanuts or Sesame Seeds
π³ Instructions
Prep Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.
Marinate: In a bowl, mix the chicken with minced garlic, salt, pepper, and 2 tbsp of the fresh orange juice. Massage the meat well and let it marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Make Batter: Mix the rice flour, all-purpose flour, corn starch, and water until smooth.
Coat: Add the marinated chicken directly into the batter and mix until evenly coated.
Make Sauce Base: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining orange juice (approx. 50ml), brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, honey, red pepper powder, and ginger powder. Mix well.
Fry (First Fry): Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the chicken pieces until they are cooked through and slightly golden. Remove and let them rest for about 5 minutes.
Fry (Second Fry): Fry the chicken again at a higher temperature. This "double-frying" method pushes out moisture and makes the chicken extra crispy and golden brown.
Thicken Sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into a pan and simmer on low heat for about 1 minute. Slowly add the starch water while stirring quickly.
Tip: Don't add all the starch water at once; add it little by little until you reach a consistency that flows slowly (like syrup).
Toss: Turn off the heat. Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss rapidly to coat every piece.
Serve: Garnish with crushed peanuts or sesame seeds for extra crunch. Enjoy immediately!
